new rank name suggestions!
Now that the LF has had a change of direction, the current rank names seem to be a little out of date, so it's time for some new ones! Anyone is free to suggest what they think should be the new ranks, and hopefully we can agree on something really fitting
Here's my suggestion to start off, 1-6 (1 being the red star of leadership!)
1. Leader (Red star w/ backing)
2. Co-Leader (Star w/ backing)
3. Crusader (star)
4. Justicar (daimond)
5. Vigilant (dot)
6. Ally (none)
Feel free to suggest what you see fit! Also feel free to use this as an example and swap out certain ranks with your own, same applies to other posts!

Re: new rank name suggestions!
The current ranks just represent the member's reputation within the group (basically if they're trusted or not), and this goes along with how much access they're allowed to say, security, power or life-support systems or taking the sub out for a spin or what-have-you.
What would these new ones do?
Cheers!

Re: new rank name suggestions!
My suggestions:
1. Leader
2. Leader (All the top three are the same rank, aren't they?)
3. Trusted
4. Proven
5. Green
6. Ally (Too useful a rank to lose)
I'm personally more for ranks which reflect the characters reputation and standing within Liberty Force, rather than one referred to in character. After all, there's little in the way of hierarchy after the top three, is there?

Cool. I'll echo Echo's.
Don't think 'Suspicious' is useful for the whacky nutjobs? I realise it can be a little mean to give the rank to folk, but ya know, if people -will- be whacky nutjobs, or break into the base, etc

AA's super complicated suggestion!!
Here's my suggestions, with reasons for being this rank and privileges/rules:
1) Leader - Speaks for itself. This is the appointed leader. They can access anywhere of the base.
2) Veteran - The holder of this rank has either been a long-time member, or has taken part in many large-scale missions or otherwise proven themselves to be considered a veteran. They can access anywhere of the base except the Reactor room. They must be accompanied by another Veteran if they are not the appointed engineer.
3) Elite - The holder of this rank has proven themselves time and time again, whether through out of combat or in-combat scenarios, the holder has shown that they aren't any average meta-being. Can go just about anywhere, except the Reactor room unless in an emergency. They also have limited access to the computer.
4) Member - The holder of this rank has contributed to the group in some form other than 'just being there' at least once. Members may only access areas such as the med-bay, cells, submarine, tech-lab and reactor room in emergencies or with permission from a Elite or above.
5) Initiate - The standard rank for new recruits. Any meta-being worth their salt won't stay at this rank for long. Members may only access areas such as the med-bay, cells, submarine, tech-lab and reactor room in emergencies or with permission from a Elite or above.
6) Ally/Associate - The rank given to those with either loose ties to Liberty Force or those that have fought alongside Liberty Force and wish to join at a later date. Allies/Associates cannot go past the main entrance without guided supervision, and may never go into the Reactor room or access the computer without permission from the Leader or at least two Veterans.
As for who gives out promotions, I think Veterans and the Leader can give them out to anyone below Elite, whilst induction into Veteran-hood requires the vote of at least two other Veterans.
Obviously, this is a lot stricter, however, I think it clears up on who can do what and gives rank-ups equivalent to contribution. Then, when people get confused as to what they can and can't do they can look to here for reference. As well, it should also shore-up any teensy tiny security holes.

Re: new rank name suggestions!
If we go with a strict, IC ranking system, I do like AA's. One thing: The group has 3 leaders (Rogue, Sol, and last time I checked the poll Max), so they'd just have to be remembered as such.
However I still prefer the loose rank/standing system myself. And Suspicious is a good rank, true, just a bit rarely used. Including it my suggestion'd be:
1. Leader
2. Leader
3. [Trusted Hero Equivalent]- Veteran, Trusted, (YellowShirt)?
4. [Hero Equivalent]- Vigilant, (MauveShirt)?
5. Suspicious
6. Ally
If as above we could just remember who was on the 3 leader roles, we could slot in a Sidekick/Initiate/RedShirt rank above Suspicious.
Out of the 4 contributions on this thread 2 have been for IC Ranking and 2 for Standing/Reputation, so we might need to do a vote if we can't decide...

Re: new rank name suggestions!
Perhaps a mix of the two? More dynamic IC names but with the set statuses of a system for each rank? Then everyone is happy
We could easily use AA's system but with names similar to what me and echo suggested?

Re: new rank name suggestions!
Is this okay with everyone?
1. Leader
2. Leader
3. Crusader (AA's veteran privileges)
4. Vigilant (AA's elite privileges)
5. Hero (Mix of member/initiate privileges)
6. Ally
Hopefully you'll agree that this setup maintains a solid ranking system while also capturing a diverse and suitably themed IC title for each.

Re: new rank name suggestions!
The permissions sound fine.
Crusader sounds way too fancy to me. Veteran is more neutral.
Vigilant sounds a bit fancy too, but aside from "Trusted" I dunno what else could be there.
Ally and Suspicious could be collapsed into "Outsider"? Basically anyone who isn't actually -in- the group in the terms of base-access protocol, but they're still there.
If we have a few distinct proposals and no easy compromise between them here, can always put it to a poll?

Oreso's modifications sound good. For me, that'd be
- Leader
- Leader
- Veteran
- ??? (Trusted?)
- ??? (Member?)
- Outsider

Quick! Throw words! :
Specialist
Adept
Initiate
Recruit
Inductee
Agent
Operative (These two don't really fit the theme, but meh)
Greenhorn (For the lulz)
Of course, I'd be okay with just Member then either Trusted or Hero, because, despite the new direction, they are still heroes. In one way or another.

Re: new rank name suggestions!
Green
Proven
Vigilante
Redshirt
Mauveshirt
Spear Carrier (No, these last three weren't serious.)
I'm out of ideas. Green or Greenhorn seems like it'd fit for 5. Then the basic, hero-equivelant rank remains.

I think that concludes it with oreso's suggestion, so now we have;
Leader

VeteranMember
Trusted Member
New Recruit
Outsider
Everyone good for this?

I agree totally with these. I'm never very good at thinking of names for the ranks
